Isotope Tracer Technologies Inc. (IT²) was founded in 2009 by Dr. Robert J. Drimmie and Dr. Orfan Shouakar-Stash with the vision of creating a centre of excellence in stable isotope science and its applications to environmental, hydrological, and geochemical systems.

Dr. Robert J. Drimmie, a pioneer in isotope science, contributed more than 40 years of experience in analytical chemistry and isotope applications across diverse disciplines—from environmental forensics and hydrogeology to nuclear and biological sciences. His legacy of innovation and mentorship established IT²’s enduring foundation of analytical precision, scientific integrity, and innovation.

Dr. Orfan Shouakar-Stash, an isotope hydrogeochemist and University of Waterloo graduate, has devoted his career to advancing isotope applications in complex environmental and geological systems. Holding a Ph.D. in isotope hydrogeochemistry, he previously served as a Research Professor at the University of Waterloo’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, where he developed and implemented advanced isotopic methodologies now used internationally.

After Dr. Drimmie’s retirement at the end of 2014, Dr. Shouakar-Stash became Director and CEO of IT². Under his leadership, the company has expanded into one of North America’s leading private isotope laboratories, offering high-precision analytical services, consulting, and research & development to clients across academia, government, and industry.

Dr. Shouakar-Stash has developed numerous isotopic methodologies. He initiated and participated in many international collaborations that continue to shape the field of isotope geochemistry. He is an active member of the International Association of Geochemistry (IAGC) and other professional organizations dedicated to advancing isotope science.
